What are YOU doing this summer? Weddings, parties & weekend getaways are already filling up my calendar. I enlisted the help of some girlfriends to help me sift through my closet, and donate things I haven’t worn in ages. Now, the quest to find the right clothes for each occasion– a serious challenge for any woman! My goal is to escape the darker tones from Fall and Winter past, and invite some color into my wardrobe… all while taking advice from the pros and top designers (and sometimes, my girls).

Quit playing it safe with basic colors! Stand out from the crowd– whether at barbecues, weddings, beach parties, or on a dinner date– with head-turning prints that make a bold statement. Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenburg, Betsey Johnson and other designers include eye-catching colors and mesmerizing prints in their Spring 2010 runway styles.

What’s up with hemlines this season? Panty-peeking minis, sophisticated knee-length and mid-thigh skirts & dresses… this Spring has a little something for everyone. Let’s start with a peek at some runway fashions to inspire your personal style & revamp your closet!

It’s hard for most anyone (other than models, of course) to look classy when wearing an ultra-short dress or skirt. Thankfully, the rest of us can be satisfied with knee-length dresses and skirts that reveal just a flattering peek of our thighs! If your outfit is a bit sheer and you don’t want to reveal that much skin, try wearing something else underneath. Whether it’s lightweight, diaphanous fabric, sheer lace prints or appliqués, recent trends are resplendent in their femininity and sensuousness. Spring’s dreamy dresses with long, flowing skirts give off a majestic appeal while maintaining a sophisticated edge.

How to Wear Fashionable Necklines

We’ve all been clothes shopping and tried on tops and dresses, then thought, “wow, this looks great, but what bra am I going to wear with it?” To help you out, here’s a quick guide to wearing almost any shape of neckline, and the bras created for them! Why sacrifice style when all you need is the right bra to wear underneath? Voilà, fashion tips for any occasion!

Off-The-Shoulder Sophistication
Off-the-shoulder tops and dresses show off a sexy glimpse of your shoulders and collarbone, but can tend to reveal your bra straps. The simplest solution is a strapless bra, which will give you lift where you need it but without showing your straps! Or, if you’re not comfortable going fully strapless, you can always add on transparent straps to your convertible bra instead.

Backless Wonder
It’s tricky business to wear a bra under these tops, since the back band will likely appear and disrupt the beauty of having a backless effect. If you’ve seen celebrities shimmying down the red carpet in a backless dress, they are probably wearing an adhesive bra. Basically, an adhesive bra has a hypoallergenic double-sided adhesive that sticks onto (and around) your breasts and holds without straps or a back band, letting you show off your shoulders and back. Smile for the paparazzi!

Taking the Plunge
Deep necklines can tend to reveal the top of your bra, if the bra is not low-cut enough in the front. The solution? Try a specialty bra like Arianne’s U-Bra, which will give you lift and support while allowing you to wear even the lowest of necklines. Plus, the U-Bra’s straps are convertible, so you also have the option of crossing them in the back or making a halter neck. Talk about versatility!

It’s Hip to be Square
Medieval-cut or square-cut necklines can show the top of your bra if it comes up too high on the sides. A square-cut demi-bust bra will solve the problem and won’t needlessly reveal any of your bra’s fabric. Also, the straps usually tend to be centered towards your shoulders instead of closer to your neck, hiding your entire bra and the straps even when you go out dancing (or if you’re turned sideways towards an interesting member of your dinner party).

Strapless Sensation
The timeless look of strapless tops and dresses means that the bare-shoulder effect will never go out of style. Work with it, and invest in an ingenuous strapless or convertible bra. Most strapless bras are also equipped with their own straps, so you can wear them daily or with your other specialty tops (like halter, criss-cross, or asymmetrical necklines). You can also switch up the straps for transparent ones, which are useful when you don’t feel like wearing the bra in strapless mode. However you choose to wear it, a convertible/strapless bra is a necessary and multi-purpose addition to your wardrobe!

V-Cut Va-Va-Voom!
The ever-popular V-cut look may entice you to really show off all of your cleavage at once, but don’t go overboard. The trick to wearing these tops is to get a hint of lift without your goodies popping out the top of your shirt or dress. You’re going for classy, not trashy, and an in-your-face boost detracts from the rest of your appeal! Opt for a push-up bra that will discreetly enhance your cleavage and bring out the best of your feminine sensibilities.

Miss Smarty Pants Gets Cheeky!

The hottest panty styles of the year!

Move over, thongs! Hipsters and boyshorts have become all the rage in lingerie fashion, with emphasis on their seamless look and sleek fit. The latest styles are mostly low-rise (although some can be found in higher cuts as well) and reveal at least a hint of your lovely derrière. Here are a few stylish panty styles–comfortable enough for daily wear underneath anything.

Thongboys are considered the style between thongs and boy shorts, because they are typically (but not exclusively) low-rise, and the back comes up in a sexy V with a slight thong back, revealing the bottoms of your cheeks. You can find them in delicate laces and exciting prints.

Low-rise boy shorts and low-rise hipsters are so-called because they fall lower on the hips, but do not necessarily have a thong bottom. Some hipsters subtly accent your backside in a seductive V-shape, while others reveal only a slight demarcation of your derrière. Try them out in either an allover stretch lace, soft microfiber, and even breathable organics like cotton and bamboo.

Don’t worry– if you aren’t into wearing hipsters or thongboys, you can still find plenty of new sexy panties, comfortable for everyday wear, and won’t reveal too much of your bum. My favorites have a stretch lace along the top, providing a seamless and sleek look I can wear under even my tightest pants.

Bra Doctor Advice: How To Get Classy Cleavage

Show off your goods without going over the top… or coming out of your top!

Ever wonder how to get the perfect amount of cleavage for any occasion? No matter your size, here are some great tips to push up your girls without looking fake.

Bra Doctor Trick #1: Silicone inserts
Silicone is wonderful because it allows for a smooth look under even the tightest of clothes. Removable silicone pads allow you to augment your bust line however you want. For smaller busts, you can select an add-a-size insert to increase the size of your breasts by a full cup size. For larger busts, you can choose a flirty cleavage look or simply round out your shape. Just slide the insert into your bra, placing it along the bottom edge of the underwire (or, in the case of a non-underwire bra, along the bottom band of your bra) for a push-up towards the top, or along the side of the underwire for a push-up towards the centre. Lift up your breast in the cup and gently let it fall back into your bra to make sure the pad is snug between your skin and the bra.

Bra Doctor Trick #2: Push-up bras or demi-bust bras
Some bras come equipped with either removable or non-removable cookies (some are fabric pads, others are filled with air or water or even silicone) that help get a push-up look. The bonus of bras with removable cookies is that you can opt to insert or remove the pads, depending on the look you are trying to achieve, all in one bra! Demi-bust bras are not necessarily padded but do reveal slightly more cleavage since they come down lower in the middle between the breasts. Either way, these bras are comfortable enough and convenient enough to wear daily for a slight enhancement (or more, depending on whether you put pads inside or not).

Bra Doctor Trick #3: The seriously low neckline
Bras like the U-Bra by Arianne are specifically designed for shirts and dresses with a very low V-cut in the front. Since a regular bra will be visible underneath, bras like the U-bra fall much lower in the front while offering an extra push-up towards the centre, creating cleavage that’s irresistible! Bra Doctor Trick #4: Camisoles with integrated bras
Don’t like wearing a bra? Try a camisole with an integrated or shelf bra. Such garments are worn as clothing (outerwear) but because there is an integrated foam padding inside the bust, you get a light to medium support while still enhancing your bustline, without a bra and without pads. You can also wear these camisoles with a push-up bra to get an even more pronounced bustline.

Bra Doctor Trick #5: Convertible bras
A convertible bra allows for the straps to be crossed in the back or clasped behind the neck (halter). By crossing or adjusting the straps behind the neck, you can discreetly push your breasts toward the centre (ideal for a V-shaped shirt). Most convertible bras are slightly padded or lined, so they offer a seamless look while enhancing your cleavage.
