Deck the Halls with Money Left Over: Gifting on a Budget

We all know that the holidays are not just about the gifts; it’s about making your loved ones a priority by showing them you cherish them and are thankful for them. Regardless, we all like to spend some money on something special for our loved ones. The holidays are a perfect time for stress surrounding gifting to take control, with extravagant sales and multiple advertisements bombarding our everyday. But with a little bit of creativity, gifting someone something personal and charming can be done without breaking the bank. We’ve searched for some fabulous gift ideas to deck the halls with cash left over!
Favourite Things Mason Jar

All it takes for this thoughtful gift idea is a mason jar, which can be found inexpensively at a thrift store or discount store, and some reflection on the person you are gifting. Pack the jar with some of their favourite sweets, a small gift card for a shop they like (perhaps one from Now That’s Lingerie?), and/or little jokes things or knick knacks that bring back memories or relate to your relationship. They’ll appreciate the thought you put into it, and they can reuse the mason jar for countless things. As you can see one One Wed you can use mason jars for lots of things, and they come in so many styles and colours.

Handmade Personal Ornament

This is a great gift with a personal touch for someone who celebrates Christmas. You can find a glass ornament from a craft store, or even a plain one from the dollar store, as well as some paint, markers, fabric, or glitter from these stores. Write their name on the ornament, a funny joke that they’ll appreciate, and decorate it with their favourite colours or a pretty and festive pattern. Make it as simple or as elaborate as you’d like depending on your craftiness. Pizzazzerie has a great tutorial here.

Memory Board

Rather than just gifting a frame and a photo, you can make a memory board with a corkboard or make a board with canvas and fabric. Then, attach some twine and get some cute clips or pushpins. Print out some of your favourite photos with your loved one and place them on the board. You can decorate the board with scrapbook stickers, draw on it, or just leave it as is. It’s a decor item and a memory piece in one! Find some inspo on Pinterest.
