Lingerie Care Tips and Instructions from the Bra Doctor

Be Instruction Literate

Each garment you purchase will have washing instructions on the inside label. They're not there for decoration or to take up space, they're there for you to use them. By following these instructions, you will be able to maintain the quality of your lingerie to keep it looking the way it should. This is a basic lingerie care tip that gets ignored far too often.

Be patient

It's worth it to wash your lingerie by hand and let it dry, out of sunlight-- this will give you the best results. This lingerie care tip comes with a shortcut! If you have absolutely no time to handwash, then use one of our Fashion Essentials laundry bags. Put in the lingerie (obviously don't overload it-- it should be able to close without you forcing it), close the bag, and put it through the delicate cycle of your washing machine. Make sure you close the bras so the hooks don't get tangled in the lace. Getting the hooks tangled in the lace is a great way to destroy the delicate fibers that make those pretty lace patterns, so make sure to double check so that you're properly caring for your lingerie.

Hang to Dry

Face it, if you dry your lingerie in the machine, then chances are the elasticity won't stick around for as long as it potentially could. In order to maximize the quality of your lingerie, close your bras and let them hang (think of all those movies where you see bras hanging on doorknobs). This reduces the likelihood of stretching and keeps the fine fabric intact for longer, too. Added bonus! Lingerie doesn't take long to dry (especially those tiny G-strings. Unfortunately, this lingerie care tip doesn't come with a nice shortcut like the previous one, but this doesn't really take any real "active" effort to do. All you need to do is toss it onto a doorknob, a cupboard door handle, or a clothesline.

Bleach? No Thanks!

Unless you really hate your lingerie and want white splotches, don't use bleach! You can brutalize your bras and underwear by using bleach. Do you really want to do that? I didn't think so. If you did, why would you be reading a lingerie care page in the first place? Luckily, the solution is simple. Use a mild detergent to prevent the color from fading. Lastly, be logical, don't wash lights with darks.
