Another group of gorgeous models have glided down the runway for another season of what’s to come in fashion.

Many current trends were re-imagined and new players have come in the game. Here’s a roundup of the most standout and easy-to-wear trends out of New York Fashion Week.

Sporty Couture

Athleisure has evolved to a different level this season, with sportswear silhouettes created with new fabrics and paired in new ways.

From the leather sweatpants by Tom Ford, to the bright and modern sweatsuits from Juicy Couture and Robert Rodriguez, athleisure has transformed from wearing your workout clothes outside to being incredibly chic – dare we say, a little bit dressy!

Sheer is Still Here

Showing some skin nowadays is a little bit more demure, with sheer fabrics offering endless options for what to show underneath. If you’re daring, you can show off your bra and panty set, or even just a slip!

Dennis Basso added a little mystery to a sheer gown with embroidery, as did Anna Sui with bright florals. Naeem Khan designed a gown with embossed patterns that turn the eye away from the bare skin underneath.

The New Blazer

A blazer isn’t just for office jobs or interviews. The blazer is now a hot piece for all women to have, but it’s not as stuffy as it used to be.

The new blazer features anything from an oversized lapel like one from Sid Neigem, to an oversized double breasted silhouette like a gorgeous purple design from Michael Kors. A very popular trend is the duster-length sleeveless blazer – sort of like a vest, but with more structure like a blazer a la Phillip Lim.

Flowy Silhouettes

While fashion is always a fun way to celebrate the female form, sometimes it’s nice to let loose and let your clothes flow breezily off your body.

Flowing silhouettes were all over the runways, from Cynthia Rowley’s easy pearl dress, to Camilla and Marc’s interpretation of the slip dress. Even hemlines enjoyed more freedom, such as the ruffled pant hem of Alice + Olivia’s bright pantsuit.

Fifty Shades of Purple

We’ve seen tons of pink, orange, and white on the runways for the past few years, so it’s refreshing to see a new color come into the mix!
All sorts of shades of purple splashed the runways, perfect for a Spring refresh. There were pastel and nature-inspired shades from collections like The Row and Reem Acra, and even deeper saturated shades from designers such as Haney.

The Power Jacket

Spring can be breezy, and there’s no better way to brave the unpredictable climate than always having a jacket on hand. The jacket is also the big statement piece that many designers showcased in their runway shows.

Simple color blocking like in J. Mendel’s pink number can do the trick, or even cool patterns or embroidery like the floral detail on Zac Posen’s creation. You can have a lot of fun with this trend by going extra bold, like a brilliant pattern full of color similar to Carolina Herrera’s design.

Big Details

Go big or go home!

True style has always been in the little details, but this season, big details are in. Think fringe and frays like in Zimmerman’s boho-style white dress, or giant ruffle sleeves like the black top from Rosie Assoulin’s collection. If it’s big, like the bow on one of Badgley Mischka’s gowns, it’s in style!
