Why You Should Love Your Breasts

As women, we must overcome a lot, and we must deal with a lot of ups and downs regarding our bodies. Not only do women get judged unnecessarily for their bodies, but a woman faces change as she grows and ages that are unique from woman to woman and can be difficult. At #ShopNTL, we are all about body acceptance, and we think one of the most important aspects of a woman that she should love are her breasts! Now, that’s not just because we want you in pretty bras (although that’s important), but because they are linked to many aspects of our health and well-being. They deserve the proper care and attention, and we’re going to share with you some of our thoughts about why you should love your breasts.

Loving your breasts means making sure you’re buying the right bras for your particular comfort level, but also with necessary supports. No matter what size you are, you want to get the support you need. If you’re someone who works out, your regular bras just won’t cut it. You should invest in a fabulous sports bra that makes you feel good and supports you during your workout. You want a well-fitting, well-built bra for your daily life because you want to keep your breasts in place, and you want that little bit of extra help carrying them. Especially if you are big breasted, a good support system of a bra is paramount as the weight of your breasts can cause back issues and discomfort.

Loving your breasts also means embracing them for what they are or aren’t. Without surgical intervention, we can’t really change the way our breasts look. We can work out to try and firm them out, but we have what we were blessed with and it’s such a good feeling to just love them regardless! Try to remember you’re not the only one with lopsided, uneven, misshapen, or drooping breasts. We all have our own quirks about us which make us unique. Some of us may want bigger breasts, some of us may want smaller breasts – it’s natural as a woman to compare ourselves to others but it’s more important to love yourself for what you have!

Loving your breasts also means taking care of them, and paying close attention to them. Breast cancer is one of the biggest battles we face as women, and early detection is absolutely key to reigning victorious over the cancer. Every woman should develop the habit of giving herself a self-breast exam often. You can do it in the shower or the bath, or even as you’re getting dressed.

The recommended monthly self-exam by the National Breast Cancer Organization is simple to do. When you’re in the shower, run your fingers in a circular motion all over the breast – start from the armpit and move into the centre. Feel for any lumps, knots, or anything that feels as though it wasn’t there before. If you find anything, don’t hesitate to call your doctor. You can never be too cautious. It is also suggested to examine your breasts in front of the mirror, and look for dimples, changes on one side, or nipple changes. A good tip is to put your hands against your hips and flex the chest muscles.

Lastly, it’s recommended to examine the breasts lying down, with a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head. ‘Run your fingers from the armpit to the centre and try and find any changes. Do the other side the same way. Use pressure, as it’s one of the best ways to get a good feel.
